In January 2010, a medical cooperation agreement was signed between the Omani Ministry of Health and the French Ministry of Health and Sports. Each year, a bilateral commission representing Omani and French medical authorities is in charge of selecting five candidates. The selected ones get a five years training in different specialized fields of medicine. They focus on learning French during the first year, before being gradually integrated in French hospital services, where they complete their specialization.
Departure of five Omani doctors to France
A first group of four Omani doctors will fly to France on the 31th of October 2012. A fifth doctor will join them later on. The five candidates selected by a French-Omani Commission are sponsored by the Ministry of health, Oman Medical Specialty Board (OMSB), Sultan Qaboos University, Royal police Hospital, Armed forces Hospital, Diwan of Royal court. They will spend a year in Montpellier at the “Accent français” school, learning French, discovering the French culture and getting prepared for their specialization training. They will then be gradually integrated in their respective hospital services in Lyon, Reims, Marseille and Paris according to their specialities, general surgery, urology and cardiology.
His Excellency Yves OUDIN, Ambassador of France and Mr Houcine DAHMANE, Counsellor for Cooperation and Cultural Action wished to meet Dr Abdulaziz Al Amri, Dr Sara Al Awad, Dr Abdullah Al Farei, Dr Abdul Rahman Al Sadairi and Dr Khalid Al Balushi at the French Embassy, in order to provide them useful advice, to answer their questions and to help them to ease their mind about their future experience.
